Rewilding the Web: diversity and resilience in digital infrastructure
Kathryn Nave and Dave Ward convened Rewilding the Web at the University of Edinburgh on 28–29 May 2026, a workshop inspired by the essay Maria Farrell and I wrote, We Need To Rewild The Internet, asking what theoretical biology and ecology can teach us about cultivating sociotechnical infrastructure that resists capture by monopolising tendencies. Maria and I were both there; my talk tied the social, technological, and ecological crises together — cybernetics as the science of the polycrisis, and why we should not let a good polycrisis go to waste.
