Open Protocols and Public Interest Social Media at IGF 2025
The twentieth Internet Governance Forum was hosted by Norway in Lillestrøm on 23–27 June 2025. Alongside it, the Digital Public Goods Alliance and Project Liberty Institute convened a workshop at NORAD on Open Protocols and Public Interest Social Media — how open protocols can become digital public goods and what it takes to fund and govern public-interest social media infrastructure. I spoke there, with participants from ICANN, Mastodon, Free Our Feeds, the Social Web Foundation, the OpenID Foundation, and the University of Ottawa.
