Free Our Feeds launches — and I am one of its custodians
Social media is controlled by a handful of billionaires who shape what people see, say, and believe. Free Our Feeds, launched on 13 January 2025, is a campaign to seize the rare opportunity that open protocols offer: to fund independent infrastructure for the AT Protocol ecosystem, to build nonprofit governance that protects it from future capture, and to make room for real choice — many apps and feeds rather than one corporate algorithm.
The campaign is an initiative of the Modal Foundation and is overseen by custodians with approval authority over major decisions and the distribution of funds. I am one of them, alongside Eli Pariser, Deepti Doshi, Mark Surman, Mallory Knodel, Marc Faddoul, Sherif Elsayed-Ali, Phil Beaudoin, and Ivan Sigal.
