Social media as digital public infrastructure, at the European Data Summit
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s European Data Summit 2026 — Enforce. Simplify. Build. — spent two days in Berlin on whether Europe’s digital rulebook is delivering, how to simplify it, and what to build. On 15 April I gave the keynote Building a thriving open social web for Europe, speaking for Eurosky, and then joined the panel Digital Public Infrastructure — the Social Media Issue: if social media is infrastructure for democratic societies, Europe cannot leave it to a handful of foreign platforms.
