How Many More Cloud Scares Does Europe Need?
Within weeks, outages at AWS and then Azure took down services across Europe — a reminder that the continent runs on infrastructure it neither owns nor controls. In this Project Syndicate column, I argue that the EU cannot reach technological sovereignty while leaving the entrenched US cloud monopolies in place, and that dismantling them is a matter of resilience and security, not just competition policy.
