For years, social media has been dominated by a handful of companies, shaping how information flows, harming our informational enviroment, and limiting innovation. The dangers have never been clearer. But a new paradigm is emerging—one where open protocols, competition, and user choice drive the future of social media.

This panel discussed the Future of Technology Institute (FoTI) whitepaper “Algorithmic Pluralism: Towards Competitive & Innovative Information Ecosystems” which I coauthored with Sherif Elsayed-Ali, bringing us together with Marietje Schaake, former MEP and Stanford University fellow, and Emily Liu, Head of Special Projects at Bluesky.
